Franco-Egyptian Conference on Higher Education: a high point for bilateral cooperation.
24/04/2025
The Franco-Egyptian Conference on Higher Education, held on April 7th and 8th in Cairo, brought together numerous institutional, economic, and associative actors with a common objective: to strengthen partnerships between France and Egypt in these strategic sectors.
CDEFI is honored to have participated in this major event, marked by rich exchanges and meetings essential to the development of lasting partnerships. On this occasion, CDEFI signed a cooperation agreement with the Egyptian Supreme Council of Universities (CSU), paving the way for new joint actions to benefit French engineering schools.
This memorandum establishes a framework for cooperation based on the principles of reciprocity and shared interest, enabling French engineering schools and Egyptian universities to set up bilateral partnerships, in compliance with the national procedures and authorisations in force. It provides for a series of structuring actions, such as the development of joint training programmes, student and staff mobility, the setting up of double degree programmes and the protection of intellectual property. It also encourages scientific collaboration through joint research projects, shared publications, co-direction of theses and academic exchanges. The promotion and dissemination of knowledge is also supported through the organisation of scientific events, the exchange of resources and the promotion of joint cultural initiatives.
Mr. Armel de la Bourdonnaye, President of the Europe and International Commission and CDEFI representative at these meetings, also took part in a round-table discussion dedicated to strengthening cooperation through student and research mobility, alongside Mrs. Donatienne Hissard of Campus France, Dr. Angie Aldamk of CSU, and Mrs. Sophie Vanhaeverbeke of the European Union Delegation in Egypt. Mr. de la Bourdonnaye shared his expertise on the role of higher education establishments in this field.
The event was also attended by French President Emmanuel Macron, underlining the strategic importance of academic and scientific cooperation between France and Egypt. The event demonstrated the diversity of Franco-Egyptian exchanges and the dynamism of the resulting cooperative ventures. We are delighted with the prospects opened by this meeting, and will continue our efforts to turn them into reality.
Our warmest thanks go to the French Embassy in Cairo for organizing this event.
