First recipients of the new scholarship programme for Mexican students

22/09/2026
Over the past year, regular discussions have taken place between SECIHTI (Mexico’s Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation) and, on the French side, the French Ministry of higher education, the French Ministry of Foreign affairs, the French Embassy in Mexico and CDEFI. These discussions, focusing on the development of new academic partnerships between Mexico and France, have resulted in the creation of a new scholarship programme for Mexican students undertaking a dual-degree programme at a French engineering school.

The MEXFITEC programme played a key role in developing partnerships and mobility between higher education institutions in the two countries. This new scheme will help renew the momentum of these partnerships and support the mobility of Mexican students to France.

A first joint call for applications was launched in spring 2025: Mexican students submitted their applications to SECIHTI, while French engineering schools applied through CDEFI. For this first edition, 25 Mexican students enrolled at 10 French engineering schools were selected.

This initiative marks a new milestone in the development of Franco-Mexican relations in higher education. It reflects a shared commitment to continuing and renewing an already well-established academic partnership, by offering new mobility opportunities to Mexican students and strengthening partnerships between French and Mexican higher education institutions.

CDEFI is delighted with the launch of this new scheme, which brings to fruition the discussions initiated last year and gives fresh impetus to Franco-Mexican cooperation in engineering education.
